This Retiree Turned Small Business Owner Is On A Mission To End Foot Pain…For Good!

The American Dream: Eva Nemcik left Czechoslovakia in 1968 with her family after the Russian invasion and settled into Kirtland, OH. She then went on to work for General Electric for 26 incredible years before retiring and getting ready to enjoy the next phase of her life. 

Trouble In Paradise: Eva was excited to spend her retirement years hiking, playing tennis and enjoying mornings filled with yoga. What she discovered was that her feet hurt so bad that the thought of doing these activities could ruin the day. Eva didn’t want to give them up, but she also didn’t want to undergo surgery. This is when she turned to her 26-year background in product development to not only help herself, but millions of others in her shoes!

Creating Happy Feet! After researching natural methods to alleviate her pain, she discovered that foot pain is often caused by toe misalignment. How Does GPS Actually Work?

How does the technology we use everyday actually work? It’s something we wanted to know and thought you would too. Today we are breaking down how GPS helps you never get lost, no matter where you are. 

You likely use GPS everyday. It’s on your phone and in your car and helps tell you exactly how many minutes you are running late to that important meeting or dinner at the in-laws. Here’s how this technology actually works:

Satellites And Signals: The satellites that drive GPS as we know it today were originally put into orbit by the US Department of Defense. In the 1980s they were made available for civilian use. Each satellite emits a unique signal that informs GPS devices to decode and compute its precise location. GPS receivers, like your cellphone, use a geometry formula called trilateration to calculate a user’s exact location. 

Here’s how it works: Your GPS receiver, such as your phone, can measure the distance to each satellite by the amount of time it takes to receive a transmitted signal. When you try to find your location, your GPS receiver measures your distance away from a few satellites to determine your exact position on the Earth and displays it on a screen. 

Once your position is determined, your receiver can then give you an ETA, so you can update your friends and family just how late you are going to be. Pretty cool, right?
