Lagavulin and BBQ

How Hunter S. Thompson became a legend, weird gear outdoor enthusiasts rely on, the ultimate guide to James Bond’s motorcycles, and more...

Easy, sophisticated style. That’s what Wills does best. Using some of the finest fabrics out there—like Mongolian cashmere and merino wool—Wills crafts handsome sweaters that deliver a certain understated charm. Kind of sounds like our friend James Perkins, an NYC-based artist and one of the most charming, put-together guys we know. We paid James a visit at his Upper West Side studio then drove out to his place on Fire Island to test out a couple new styles from Wills that seemed right up his alley. Not only does James have great personal style and taste, he knows good quality when he sees it—and these pieces passed the test.

We put our Give’r 4-Season Gloves through absolute hell and back. From handling burning campfire logs to ice-fishing in -25° F temps, they’ve held up through it all—which is most likely why they’ve become our bestselling gloves of all time. Originally built in Jackson Hole, WY, to navigate the Tetons’ sub-freezing temps, these durable gloves are built with heavy-duty, waterproof leather, just begging for a challenge.

We partnered up with Food52 and Lagavulin to highlight a few pitmasters shaking up the BBQ scene. First up, Matt Fisher, owner of Queens Custom Barbecue in New York—schooling us on the complexities of smoked meat and why a good scotch is essential to the process.
