Before purchasing any hunting gear, make sure you're buying high-quality leather. Here's a quick guide to help you tell if the product is made from the best leather.

Read the product descriptions: Descriptions like Genuine Leather, Bonded Leather, Fiber, or Reconstituted Leather mean their products will probably last at least a few years. Patent leather means some sort of plastic coating has been added to it. Full-grain leather is the highest quality. It will be the most durable of all leather choices. If the description doesn't mention the leather type, assume it's cheap leather.

Feel the leather: Poorly processed leather will feel stiff or brittle. A repeatable pattern means the texture was artificially stamped into the leather. Cheaper leather can show scars and bug bites on the animal’s hide you can see and feel.

Look at how the piece is constructed: Stitching that's frayed, crooked, or otherwise unattractive can indicate cheap leather. A cheap lining can indicate cheap leather.
