Today is officially World Gin Day, and we're celebrating the enduring joy of the juniper berry, and the formidable spirit it helps to create.
And because we're never ones to shy away from a shindig, we’re delving into our eclectic collection of extraordinary gins from every corner of the globe — including our very own comprehensive ranges of Fortnum's label gins.
But that’s not all, because something very exciting recently took up residence on our 3rd Floor at Fortnum’s: our brand new distillery.
Gleaming in polished copper, the distillery is called Amalthea, named after the goat who fed the infant Zeus. According to the myth, the young Zeus accidentally broke Amalthea's horn, and from then on the horn would always be filled with whatever its owner desired. Talk about an apt name for something that produces wonderful liquid (almost) around the clock.
And while we can’t quite promise everything you desire can be crafted in our Amalthea, what we do create are two exquisite gins in store: our traditional London Dry and Pink Gin. So if you’re gin the mood for something extraordinary to celebrate World Gin Day with, Fortnum’s is your destination. | | | | Made In Piccadilly After copious taste testing, our experts have crafted recipes for two new house gins: our Amalthea Dry Gin and our Amalthea Pink Gin, both of which are made in-store at our Piccadilly home. | | | Our Amalthea Dry Gin This traditional London Dry is made with an assortment of handpicked botanicals, and dashes of Fortnum’s Earl Grey Tea and Monarch Marmalade. The 'Dry' Gin classification means only water is added to the spirit after it’s been distilled, ensuring no flavourings, aromatisers or sweeteners are present. | | | | Our Amalthea Pink Gin This pink-hued creation adds rhubarb, rose, dried hibiscus and our own Earl Grey tea to a warming botanical base rich with juniper, cardamom and coriander. Our Pink Gin is naturally coloured only after the distillation process is complete, using cherry and rhubarb. | | | | | | | Gin The Mood? We Are...
